If \expndtw4 he is identical with Satakarni mentioned in an inscrip\-\expndtw14 tion on the gateway of the Sanchi \i Stupa, \i0 we have \expndtw2 got epigraphic proof that Central India was an early \expndtw13 possession of the Satavahanas. Next, the similarity \expndtw2 in the scripts of the Nanaghat and Hathlgumpha ins\-\expndtw6 criptions\super 2\nosupersub  shows that it was perhaps this. Satakarni, whom Kharavela of Kalinga defied in the second year \expndtw11 of his reign. The former's wife was Nayanika or \expndtw9 Naganika, daughter of the Maharathi Tranakayiro of \expndtw3 the Anglya family, and she acted as regent during the \expndtw4 minority of the princes $akti-Sii and Veda-Sri. Then \expndtw7 follows a period of darkness until the curtain is lifted \expndtw10 by Gautamiputra Satakarni. No doubt, the \i Pttrdnas \i0\expndtw3 give a string of names, but unfortunately no coins or inscriptions have been discovered to corroborate them. \expndtw2 One of these rulers, Hala, is credited with having com\-\expndtw0 posed a Prakrit anthology called \i Sattasai (Saptasataka). \i0\expndtw5 Towards the end of the first century A.
